Midjourney vs Nano Banana (2026): 8 Side-by-Side Tests

Irwin

Last updated: November 2, 2026 · Tested on GoEnhance AI

Short answer: In eight same-prompt tests, Nano Banana Pro won four, Midjourney V7 won two, and two were ties. Nano Banana Pro was far better at anything with words or exact instructions — menus, infographics, a bilingual poster and a counting test, where Midjourney's text came out garbled and its fruit count was wrong. Midjourney V7 won both art tests: its watercolor and painterly fantasy images had more texture and atmosphere. Use Nano Banana Pro for graphics and product images, and Midjourney for illustration and mood.

Disclosure: GoEnhance offers both Midjourney V7 and Nano Banana Pro, so we have no reason to favor one. Each image below is the first result of a single run — no cherry-picking. Midjourney returns four images per run; we always used image #1.

How we tested

  • Models: Midjourney V7 in the GoEnhance web app and nano-banana-pro through the GoEnhance image API, both on November 2, 2026.
  • Settings: the same prompt and aspect ratio for both; Nano Banana Pro at 1K with default settings. For the wide banner we used 21:9, the widest ratio Nano Banana Pro supports.
  • What we judged: whether each image did what the prompt asked, plus overall quality for the two art tests. One run per prompt is a hands-on comparison, not a benchmark.

We left out image editing because Midjourney handles references differently from Nano Banana Pro's edit mode. For editing tests, see Nano Banana Pro vs Nano Banana 2.

Test 1: Chalkboard menu text

Prompt: A chalkboard cafe menu titled "MORNING MENU" listing exactly these six items with prices: "Espresso $3", "Flat White $4.50", "Matcha Latte $5", "Avocado Toast $9", "Blueberry Muffin $3.50", "Granola Bowl $7". Hand-lettered chalk style on a wooden frame. All text spelled exactly as written.

Chalkboard menu: Midjourney V7 vs Nano Banana Pro

Midjourney got the "MORNING MENU" title right, but the items turned into invented words such as "PLA'SH WHINE" and "BLUCRPOUCA TOTOS," with wrong prices. Nano Banana Pro spelled all six items and prices correctly.

Winner: Nano Banana Pro

Test 2: Infographic labels

Prompt: Educational infographic titled "THE WATER CYCLE" showing four labelled stages: "EVAPORATION", "CONDENSATION", "PRECIPITATION", "COLLECTION", with arrows connecting them in a loop over a simple landscape with sea, mountains and clouds. Flat vector style, clean sans-serif labels spelled exactly as written.

Midjourney's poster looks stylish, but the labels read "CVARTION," "CORPATION," "CONSORPATE" and "PREORUATION," and the arrows don't form a cycle. Nano Banana Pro's labels are all correct and the arrows loop in the right order.

Winner: Nano Banana Pro

Test 3: Bilingual product poster

Prompt: Elegant product poster for a loose-leaf green tea tin on a bamboo mat. Large English headline "SPRING HARVEST" at the top and the Chinese line "春茶上新" directly below it, small caption "Hand-picked in Hangzhou" at the bottom. Soft natural light, minimal layout, all text spelled exactly as written.

Tea poster: Midjourney V7 vs Nano Banana Pro

Midjourney's lighting and composition are beautiful, but the headline reads "SPRING H-ARVEST," the Chinese characters on the tin are not "春茶上新," and the caption is unreadable. Nano Banana Pro rendered all three lines correctly.

Winner: Nano Banana Pro

Test 4: Counting

Prompt: Exactly seven red apples and three green pears arranged in a single straight row on a white table, studio lighting, top-down product photo.

Apples and pears: Midjourney V7 vs Nano Banana Pro

Midjourney drew five apples and five pears in two rows. Nano Banana Pro drew exactly seven apples and three pears in one row.

Winner: Nano Banana Pro

Test 5: Photorealistic portrait

Prompt: Candid street photograph of an elderly fisherman mending a fishing net on a harbor dock at golden hour, weathered hands, natural skin texture, shallow depth of field, 35mm film look.

Fisherman: Midjourney V7 vs Nano Banana Pro

Midjourney went for a dramatic close-up of the hands working the net — stunning skin texture, but the fisherman and the dock are cropped out. Nano Banana Pro shows the whole scene as described. Which one is "better" depends on whether you want the full scene or the mood.

Result: Tie

Test 6: Wide landscape (21:9)

Prompt: Ultra-wide panoramic website banner of a coastal road winding along green cliffs above a turquoise sea at sunset, a single red car on the road. No text.

Coastal road: Midjourney V7 vs Nano Banana Pro

Both produced a clean, continuous panorama with the single red car. Midjourney's warmer, more dramatic cliffs feel cinematic; Nano Banana Pro's version includes the sunset in frame.

Result: Tie

Test 7: Fantasy concept art

Prompt: Epic fantasy concept art of a floating island city with waterfalls pouring into the clouds at dawn, small airships drifting between towers, painterly brushwork, cinematic composition, highly detailed.

Fantasy concept art: Midjourney V7 vs Nano Banana Pro

Midjourney's image looks like an actual painting, with soft brushwork, atmospheric depth and a cool dawn palette. Nano Banana Pro's scene is detailed and well composed but looks more like a polished digital render than "painterly brushwork."

Winner: Midjourney V7

Test 8: Watercolor illustration

Prompt: Watercolor children's book illustration of a small fox reading a book under a giant red mushroom in an autumn forest, soft pastel palette, visible paper texture.

Watercolor fox: Midjourney V7 vs Nano Banana Pro

Midjourney's version has real watercolor qualities — pigment blooms, soft edges and visible paper grain. Nano Banana Pro's is charming and clean but reads more like ink-and-wash line art.

Winner: Midjourney V7
